Year 1 Social Action Project
The Year 1 children have chosen to raise money for the local hedgehog charity and the Wildlife Trust. The children chose these charities as they know that hedgehogs are on the decline in the UK and the children know that we have hedgehogs in the Forest School area and they want to protect them.
The children voted on whether they wanted to do a toy sale or a sponsored scooter/bike ride and the vote was tied, so we decided to do both.
The children brought in their old and unwanted toys from home and we sold these afterschool to the parents and other children in the school before Christmas.
Following on from this success, the children then raised sponsorship money for a scooter and bike ride around the playground. We completed 50 laps which we worked out is approximately the distance a hedgehog walks in one night searching for food.
