Technical Knowledge
Nets and 3D shapes
We looked at how we could use a net to create a 3D shape for the body of the car. We explored how you could assemble the net and how you could secure it to the chassis of the car.
Design
Create a net for the body of the car
We designed how we would like the body of our car to look and thought about the net we would need to create this 3D shape.
Make
Making the chassis and the body of the slingshot car
We used wooden dowels to make the chassis of the car, adding drinking straws onto the dowels as axle holders so the axles for the wheels would turn. We originally learnt this in Year 1 when we looked at wheels and axles and created our own junk model car.
We added the body of the car, created from a net, to finish our product.
Evaluation
Testing out the cars
We took the cars outside and tested out how well they worked. We looked at which travelled furthest and fastest and considered why this might be the case. We considered air resistance and how this may have affected the speed of the car.
